We talked a lot of electric cars, the models out there and have already achieved feats that some in terms of autonomy and efficiency. However, they are not the only vehicles that go by road in the coming years will also move with this system. The trucks are in the spotlight and this week we have seen a step forward.
BMW and SCHERM presented and put into operation the first electric truck that works without fossil fuels and also do not emit any emissions to the atmosphere. It may seem trivial but there are several reasons to see this announcement as good news for the development of vehicles that run on electricity.
Little autonomy at the moment
The truck of 40 tons has a range of one hundred kilometers per charge . Each charging process reaches three to four hours. As you can imagine, walking away from the autonomy offer electric cars making their first tasks will be transporting car parts from one factory to another in very short distances.
The advance is important for a very clear reason: heavy vehicles emit large amounts of carbon dioxide and the various regulatory authorities working to reduce these amounts every few minutes . That tomorrow were completely clean and have a viable autonomy that would make a breakthrough.
According to the European Commission , the transport sector is the only one that is increasing CO2 emissions. In fact, since 1990 it has grown by 20.5% and today they are responsible for 25 & of emissions that make all modes of transport and 6% of the total if you count all categories.
The European Union defines rules according to engine power and over the years (the latest revision is October 2008) have become stricter . One year, also it makes defined a new program to maintain current numbers of 2050 to not be increasing the environmental impact of these vehicles. In fact, Brussels made while running a program to calculate the impact that has a truck or bus.
