In this tutorial, we will explain how to know if the hard disk that your computer(laptop or desktop) has is either SSD (Solid-State Drive) or HDD (Hard Disk Drive). There are many ways to know it, we will explain you two easy ways and without having to install programs.
If you do not like reading a lot, I’ll summarize the two methods, one is reviewing in the Windows Disk Optimizer, there you can see the type of hard drive you have. This only works on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
And the other way is to check in device manager, to see the model of your hard drive and look for its specifications on the Internet.
If you do not know how to do it you can read the methods explained below in detail.
To know if a hard disk is SSD or HDD by means of the disc optimizer
As I said before. This method only works on Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.
Press the Windows + S keys. The Windows Finder will open. In the same write optimize and click where it says “Defragment and optimize units“.
Then the window of the unit opens. There is a column that says “Media type“, in that column you can see if your hard disk is SSD or HDD. If it says “Solid state drive” it is SSD, if it says “Hard drive” it is HDD.
To know if a hard disk is SSD or HDD by means of its model
Assuming that the above method does not convince you or did not work or you have an old operating system such as Windows 7. There is another way of knowing it. Go to Control Panel, then click “Device Manager“.
Now you only need to do a Google search with that model name and you will be shown the specifications of your hard drive, where they will also tell you if it is SSD or HDD.
