Many times we have a connection on our laptop and we want to extend the connection through it. In Windows 10 there is a functionality that allows us to have the laptop as a Wi-Fi repeater or as many call it “hotspot” and this article will explain how it is done. Just follow the steps below.
To configure your laptop as a hotspot in Windows 10 first go to Start and then click on the configuration option (Image below) or enter Settings by pressing Windows+I on your keyboard.
Then click where it says “Network and Internet“:
When you do that you will be presented with several options of the Wi-Fi configuration of your computer. You must click where it says “Zone with wireless mobile coverage” or “Mobile hotspot.””.
Then on the right side, you will see the option to activate call “Share my Internet connection with other devices.”. By activating that option you would be using your laptop as a hotspot or Wi-Fi repeater.
In the Edit window, set your network name and password you want to use and then click “OK.”
Then below is “Change adapter options” which is to modify parameters to the wireless adapter directly, “Network and Sharing Center” is to manage your network and an option to modify the firewall configuration that is the one that says “Firewall Of Windows“.
If you have problems with the connection
If you have a problem with the connection you can.
- Update wireless drivers to troubleshoot wireless instability.
- Disable Windows 10 Firewall. This is to prevent false Windows positives from blocking the wireless devices that are trying to connect.
- Make sure you have Windows 10 up to date with your latest version.
- Keep in mind that the laptop that is a hotspot obviously must have Internet connection in some way, whether by some type of data network or wireless network.
If you have any problems or doubts regarding the Wi-Fi of your laptop do not hesitate to leave a comment.
