The PuzzlePhone is a new modular smartphone that is being developed by Circular Devices, a company created and led by the Spanish engineer Alejandro Santacreu Finnish company. His intention is to create an alternative to other phones like the modular Fairphone 2 or Ara Project of Google committed to sustainability.
Today a week ago I talked about the project to say that they were about to launch a campaign of crowdfunding to finance it and Prevender its first units, and today we do it again and tell you that the PuzzlePhone already launched its campaign in Indiegogo, and that we can know their specifications and what their promotional prices.
PuzzlePhone, so is the concept of modular mobile
In its campaign of crowdfunding Circular Devices has published what the initial specifications which will be provided its first smartphone, which say they are left to implement everything we have developed in their test drives in the final design have revealed with great detail.
We remind you that this phone will be composed of three main modules. Column will telephone base, and include screen and slots for connecting the other two. These are the brain, taking the bulk of the hardware hosting the SoC, RAM, storage or cameras, and the other will be in charge of hosting the Heart sensors and battery.
The smartphone bet on a compatible open standard to enable connection of different modules based on SoC architectures, and the company promises that have been designed with the idea that can last up to 10 years. Thus, extending it to go and not have to buy a new phone every so often say that we are taking care more of the environment.
These are its specifications
The PuzzlePhone have a size of 70 x 137 x 8.9 mm and weighing 170 grams. At least this is what corresponds to the model with screen 5 inches with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is what they are offering in their campaign Indiegogo. It is expected therefore that when marketed models also grow more screen dimensions.
In the brain module we will find a octa-core processor with 64-bit ARM which has not given details, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB, 32 or 64 GB of internal storage. You will also have a 5 megapixel camera front and rear 12 megapixel with LED flash. Again, the idea is to have different brain modules to adapt the phone to our needs.
Heart module will feature 2,800 mAh battery, connectivity 2G, 3G, 4G and WiFi, USB 3.0 Type C, NFC and Bluetooth 4.2 LE. We also find sensors such as the accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and ambient light. The operating system Android 6.0 will certainly Marshmallow or any other version that comes later.
Price and Availability
In the campaign of crowdfunding we can find three models with three different prices: first edition version with 16 GB of storage for 299 euros, an issue with metal band with 32 GB for 399 euros and a special edition with better finishes and 64 GB of storage 699 euros. They must be made of environmentally friendly materials.
As for the date of delivery, the manufacturer’s intention is to be able to send the lower version, being the first edition, in September next year. The other two models would be sent to buyers a month later, in October 2016.
